Potty Training Part II (and Big Boy Underwear!)

Following on the heels of the other night's debacle, I was downstairs with Jack this morning, and unfortunately, he gave no warning tht it was time to "take care of business." Not a huge deal.

Well, we thought it might present a golden opportunity to take a shot. A shot at BIG BOY UNDERWEAR!

You would've thought Jack won the lottery. He went from doing puzzles on the floor to sprinting around the house. "I'm EMANCIPATED!!!"

After the usual "let-us-know-if-you-have-to-go" warnings, Jack sprints around the upstairs for a good while.

Well, I'm in the bedroom, and I hear "NOOOOOO!" Kelly is now dealing with what I had the other night. Evidently what happened downstairs earlier this morning was the figurative "tip of the iceberg."

For those interested, Jack's first pair of big-boy underwear lasted all of 10 minutes.

Potty Training, Part I

We're on the cusp of getting Jack completely potty-trained. Miss Julie (his teacher) said he's really good about peeing, and pretty good when he has more "substantial" business to accomplish.

Kelly and I are always reminding him to "let us know" and we'll help him in the bathroom. Anyway, the other night I was bathing Jack. You know, long day, tired kid, warm water.

"Daddy, I need go poo-poo."
"Okay! One quick second!"

No kidding, I pulled him out, stood him up on the bathmat for 2, maybe 3, seconds, and then he's on the toilet.

"Daddy, I poo-poo on rug."

HUH? NO WAY! THERE WASN'T ENOUGH TIME.

So I look down and there's nothing there. Mind you, I'm looking for pebbles.

Call it "missing the forest for the trees." I thought I was looking at Jack's shoe. Nope. But it was something equally as large.

It is...ALIVE!

In case some of you hadn't heard...we've found out what we're having....

That's right. Pink.

This shot, while hard to tell, is essentially looking up at her bottom. The legs are angling up and right.

Hands, hands, finger, thumb...dum ditty dum ditty dum dum dum.

She's giving Mom a nice kick to the bladder. KEE-iah!!!

Rings on fingers, rings on thumb, dum ditty dum ditty dum dum dum.

How cute! She looks just like...well, ah....

OK...both Kelly and I are TOTALLY CREEPED OUT BY THESE 3D OR 4D--WHATEVER-- PICTURES. Sometimes, we'd rather wait.

Hands up around the face. "Gee, I hope Dad is saving for my wedding. COMMENCE TEEN ANGST!!!"

Check it out. Evidently there's a Twister game going on in there. Right hand, cervix. Left placenta. Left hand, rib.

This is all he wants to do

Eat? No.
Go outside? No.
TV? No, not really.

We've stopped helping him, as he doesn't need it.

Showing off a bit much

This video is edited, but it shows two great things:

1. Jack walked down the stairs without using the railing, and
2. Guess who got new shoes?

Have you even seen a kid try to walk and look at his heels at the same time? He's not doing it here, but he's been doing it since he got the new shoes.

Halloween! ROWR!!!

Jack is in a dinosaur mood lately. A dragon is the best we could find on short notice. He still wasn't in the trick-or-treating mode, so Daddy got to cart him around in a wagon.

p.s. We gave all his candy away.

Because, you know, fierce dragons have well-maintained lawns.

It's not a pencil-thin moustache...it's remnants of chocolate.

We had to go see Miss Sue.

Wow...2 1/2 months, but hey, it's HALLOWEEN

Apologies for the extreme tardiness.

Jack's Nan (Kelly's mom, Linda) is visiting. We were scheduled to go to a work-sponsored Halloween outing yesterday, but they cancelled it at the last minute.

We didn't get the message, so what the hey, let's go to Forrest Hall Farm.

Many things to do and see, but here Daddy challenged Jack to a tetherball game. What you don't see is Daddy scrambling 5 seconds later as the ball is on the verge of clocking Jack in the head.

I think it's an understatement to say that Jack (and most kids) love animals. I'll qualify that statement with Jack likes MOST animals. Loves pictures, puzzles, but he's still shy around live animals. So we found this friend for him...
Forrest Hall Farms has a large Grain Box (think sheltered sandbox filled with field corn. The kids love it. We had to drag Jack out of there.

These last pictures, I think, are the most telling. Jack went with his mom, Mimi (Jean) and Aunt Whitney to Forrest Hall Farms last Halloween...so it's a good chance to see how he's changed in one year.

This year's scarecrow...and last year's....

There seems to be a lot less head room in that tunnel now.
